AABZU
AABZU is a duo: Maciek Szymczuk and Łukasz Szałankiewicz. Two restless ghosts. They have been cooperating since 2002. The first effect was released on the album of V.A. “Nowe: le” (Vivo Rec., 2002) – the piece ‘There’s No Way’, still signed as Zenial vs Maciek Szymczuk. In 2005, AABZU’s debut album “The Shape of Lost Things” (Simple Logic Rec. – split with PHYRL) is released, presenting to the world delicate structures, based on all kinds of faults and ambient, repetitive backgrounds.
The following years pass for AABZU at concerts in Poland and abroad, participation in the UNSOUND, ELEKTRO-MECHANIKA festivals, WRO Biennale and MPM Ambient Gorlice. In the meantime, the duo is preparing material for the second album. “Rambo” is released in 2010 by AudioTong, collecting enthusiastic reviews and not taking prisoners, like the title character of this release. The music, richer and more diverse than on the debut album, sparkles with many colors, remaining coherent despite this heterogeneity. One song features a guest appearance by Mian Mian, a Chinese writer (including “Candies”), reciting excerpts from her new book.
