DIRK SERRIES

Dirk Serries is an artist from Belgium who has been experimenting with music from the borderline of avant-garde, industrial, experimental and ambient music for over 30 years. Until 2007, he was publishing under the pseudonym Vidna Obman, when he closed this chapter of his work (leaving an extensive discography). Other projects such as Fear Falls Burning and his Microphonics series have resulted in collaborations with several key musicians such as Steven Wilson, Justin K. Broadrick, Cult of Luna, Steve Roach and have toured extensively alongside Jesu, MONO, Low, My Bloody Valentine and Cult of Luna.

In October 2013, Dirk Serries revived Vidn Obman’s project to release 3 albums from the mid 1980s / early 1990s in a limited edition on 180 grams vinyl. These raw tracks were recorded live for one side of the vinyl record each, released on the boutique Tonefloat label: Ikon. After these three vinyls, several digital albums were also released. The Streams of Consciousness series still exists.

Dirk Serries also returned to Projekt Records with the album “The Origin Reversal”, another search for the classic sound of Vidn Obman. It is music that flows from discrete sources: sonic purity, waves of harmony and organic textures that slow down time through phases of transcendence. Live, improvised and recorded in real time. Recently, the musician collaborates with key labels on the independent scene, such as Tonefloat, Consouling Sounds and Important Records.

In 2016, the long-awaited new album in the Microphonics series is due out, the successor to the highly rated predecessor released in 2013.

Currently, Dirk runs the Tonefloat, New Wave of Jazz sub-division, which releases music on vinyl / cassettes, devoted to his fascination and constant search in the field of improvisation and free-jazz. At the same time, he often performs live with some of the best and most modern improvisers, such as saxophonists John Dikeman and Colin Webster, drummers Tomas Järmyr, Steve Noble and Andrew Lisle, and the trombonist Kristoffer Lo.
