THE STARGAZER’S ASSISTANT
David J. Smith, probably more associated as the leader and drummer of avant-garde rock group Guapo, launched The Stargazer’s Assistant in 2007, originally as a solo project, to create the soundtrack for his sculpture exhibition. Since then, the project has gradually developed, increasingly taking on live performances and numerous collaborations with filmmakers and performers, has become a full-fledged team. Currently, Stargazer’s Assistant is a trio: David J. Knight (Danielle Dax, Lydia Lunch) with whom David Smith also appears at UnicaZürn (with Stephen Thrower – Coil, Cyclobe) and Michael J. York (Coil, Cyclobe, Teleplasmiste). Anyway, since 2012 Smith and York have been co-creating the concert line-up of the Cyclobe group with Stephen Thrower and Ossian Brown. In 2018, the last – so far – release “Resurgam I, Resurgam II” was released by House Of Mythology (just like their previous album in 2016, “Remoteness Of Light”). Smith is currently working with Maurice Burns on a Resurgam film.
